Shades of Swagger #17 |  Portrait of Blind Sotho Miner with dog, 1947.
Blind Sotho Miner With His Dog, 1947. Photographic portrait image of a blind Sotho man sitting against a wall. He is wearing a patch, made of cloth, over both his eyes. His dog is sitting beside him. There is a stick on the ground between them. He is also wearing a hat and blanket. Photograph by Constance Stuart Larrabee, 1947. Constance Stuart took photographs in Basutoland (now Lesotho) during her first trip in 1941. In 1947, she returned to Lesotho as an officially accredited photographer. She documented a visit of the British royal family: King George VI, Queen Elizabeth and their daughters Princess Elizabeth and Margaret, to this British Protectorate. She used the occasion to venture into the countryside and captured unique images of rural life among the Sotho people.
